| Doubles shuttlers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari want a lot of noise at the Putra Stadium to help fire them up to play better in the Thomas Cup Finals. And they have called on the Malaysian fans to cheer loudly. “The louder the better. Fairuzizuan and I prefer it loud to keep us going. In fact, we have been letting out shouts of encouragement to each other during training,” said Zakry. “We realise that when we are quiet, something is wrong. We are unable to bring out our best. We have to constantly psych up each other. I admire the Indonesian fans because they stand by their players all the time. We will give our best.” With strong support from the spectators, Zakry is hoping to come good in a second appearance in the Thomas Cup Finals with Fairuzizuan. The duo are the second ranked pair in the team behind world No. 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong. The third Malaysian pair are Ong Soon Hock-Hoon Thien How. Zakry added that he would not want to end up a disappointment after being given a second chance to feature in the Finals. “Fairuz and I were not in the good books of the coaches ahead of the selection of the team. We were not playing well and did not have good results to show. But we were still selected for the Finals. And they kept Malaysia alive in the tie before Mohd Hafiz Hashim lost the deciding match against Chen Jin to give China a 3-2 win. “It was the one and only match we played in our debut in the Thomas Cup Finals but the most memorable one. We may play more matches this time and we hope to deliver in every tie,” said Zakry. As the second ranked doubles pair, their counterparts in the other teams are Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng (China), Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan (Indonesia), Jung Jae-sung-Shin Baek-cheol (South Korea) and Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen (Denmark). “This time, the second doubles will be keenly contested. Every other country have a strong second doubles pair. We will try to defy the odds again,” said Zakry. |

Songphon and Kulchala win Japan title for Thailand
Thailand won only its second title in the history of the Japan Open badminton championship on Sunday when Songphon Anugritayawon and Kulchala Voravichitchaikul claimed the mixed doubles title.
The unseeded pair defeated sixth-seeded Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark 13-21, 21-16, 22-20 in the final.
In 2005, Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkam became one of the most successful pairs from Thailand after they also won the tournament's mixed doubles title.
"I'm very happy, because this is the first time we won a title outside our country," said Songphon, 25.
"I still feel excited. We've reached the semi-finals and final, but we never became champions before, other than at the Thailand Open (in July)," said Kulchala, 24.
The pair lost the first game rather easily on Sunday, but their coach's advice to "use more skills" helped them to take the next two.
"Both teams made some mistakes and it was very close in the last two games. We thought about nothing but to fight point for point and finally we won the match," said Songphon.
Songphon added that they would try to follow in the footsteps of Sudket and Saralee and said: "Hopefully, we can win more titles after this victory."
Their next events are the Hong Kong Open and the China Open in November.

FROM NSTWONG Choong Hann didn't get the fairytale ending he was hoping for in the Taiwan Open yesterday as his bid was thwarted by the on-form Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.
Choong Hann, 32, looked a pale shadow of the player who beat former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in Saturday's semi-finals and could only put on token resistance against Tien Minh who won 21-11, 21-14.
It was Tien Minh's second title in as many months after having won the Thailand Open, his first career title, last month.
Tien Minh has been producing consistent results over the last three months during which time he also upstaged World No 1 Lee Chong Wei in the first round of the Singapore Open in June.

As for Choong Hann, now in the twilight of his playing career, it was a second straight loss in a final after having lost to Chong Wei in the Macau Open last week.
Choong Hann, playing in his third tournament in as many weeks, had little in reserve and his title chances were blown off course by the Vietnamese.
"I just couldn't recover in time from the semi-final against Taufik. I felt very tired and my initiative on court was just not enough to beat Tien Minh," said Choong Hann by telephone Taipei yesterday. "He (Tien Minh) played well and took advantage of my ineffectiveness."
Hosts Taiwan surprised by clinching the men's doubles title through Chen Hung Ling-Lin Yu Lang who beat Hong Kong's Johan Hadi Kusuma-Wong Wai Hong 14-21, 21-12, 21-19 while Cheng Shao Chieh secured the women's singles crown beating Bae Seung-hee of South Korea 17-21, 21-12, 21-15.
India also made a breakthrough by winning their first mixed doubles crown in a international grand prix tournament when V. Diju-Jwala Gutta defeated Indonesia's Hendra Gunawan-Vita Marissa 23-21, 21-18.

TERSUNGKUR LAGI!!!!
Dalam sehari dua ini setelah skuad negara berputih mata dalam kejohanan Badminton Dunia di India saya menantikan apa komen-komen dan juga pendapat-pendapat yang timbul dari media dan juga mereka yang bertanggungjawab.. namun agak sunyi sedikit buat kali ini. apakah wartawan sudah mula muak?? atau sudah menjadi perkara lumrah kegagalan demi kegagalan apa bila bertarung dalam pertandingan yang mempunyai prestige yang tinggi. Strategi kite jauh berbeza jika dibandingkan strategi China.. Percaturan yang dilakukan kite telah kalah.. pernah kah kite belajar satu perkara yang agak menonjol... APA ADA PADA RANKING??? adakah pemain cina mengejar ranking atau mengejar kejuaran kejohanan prestige.???? China memberi pelabagai alasan untuk tidak hadir dalam kejohanan yang diangap kurang prestige bagi memberi tumpuan kpada kejohanan yang lebih menguntungkan.. sedar atau tidak percaturan mereka seakan menjadi.. kite cuma mengutip anak-anak bilis, padahal hasil lumayan ditengah lautan dibaham China. Kita ada ranking kerana banyak kali menang tetapi kejohanan pesisir pantai sahaja. dimana silap nye.. apakah kite tiada master plan.. untuk kita mencongak dari sekarang hingga 20 tahun akan datang.. tentu ada ... sejauh mana kajian balik dia jalankan.. ??
Bila isu gagal paling sinonim yang sering dia keluarkan dalma kenyataan adalah "Lemah Mental" sejauh mana lemahnya mental pemain kita?? saya pun tidak boleh menduga nya.. mungkin tuan-tuan mempunyai pendapat yang mungkin bernas untuk kita kongsi bersama..
